EPIRBs / PLB?

Recommended Posts

I had read BBs notes on safety while caching and was thinking about some of his comments as I tromped through the woods in BCP / Addicks yesterday by myself. It got me thinking about what I would do if I suffered an injury or ailment that rendered me immobile. We all know cell phones can be notoriously unreliable in some cache areas so my question is do any of y'all carry an EPIRB / PLB while caching?

I do not and this can potentially get a geocacher killed. When we go into a remote area, it is a very good idea to let someone know where were are going.  I say this, but don't always do it.  LOL  Leaving a text file open on your computer can help your spouse track you down.

EPIRB = Emergmency Positioning Radio Beacon - This is the type used offshore. If you ever fly in a helicopter there is one in each life vest worn by the occupants and I believe two on e helicopter.

PLB = Personal Locator Beacon - Basically the same as an EPIRB but for land.
