GeoTRIVIA Game Board

I was asked to help prepare a Trivia Board layout customized for Geocaching for this years coming Texas Challenge.

Attached is the present draft for the board.  The radial silver metallic background is/was my attempt to keep away from an expensive(black ink) background and still have great contrast with the colored playing areas.  I am approaching a week since I have done this and now am not sure if it is more hypnotic and not distracting from the board play itself.

So I am asking myself and you, should I go for a grey colored, textured type of background that is all one type of color.  When you see the printed version, it almost seems as if each square is floating above the surface.  What do you think?

It does look awesome. Much thanks for taking this on.  O0

The corner "logos" and font seem awkward.
The redish border around the geologo and yellow border around the text don't seem to jive well.

Can you try a different font and color scheme for those bits?

You will have to answer all the questions without error. Then and only then would you be able to get the Zen version... ;)

Should the TXGA logo be on there somewhere?

GeoTrivia is an idea Keely and I hashed out together to help solve the issue of getting folks from different regions to sit down together and mingle. Keely probably won't care but I'm not sure I like the idea of having logos on it.

I like the funky "radial silver metallic background" but would do something different in the inner circle where it gets dizzying.

I agree on no logos.

Question.... how is this going to be printed??

oh, and by the way, I love it!  both the idea and questions that Keely came up with last year and the new board.  Totally awesome dude.  Double rainbow.

Just Keely gave me an actual Trivia Board, my plan was to print the image and glue on top of the original board.  Some concern on how will that will hold but I guess it depends on the type of glue used.  I will printing onto regular bond paper the same size as the board.

Backgrounds are fully optional. I could make a PDF with several versions of the board with different colors.  Did NOT think of it until now.  Holidays!  mess up the thought process....

Will have anew multi-version PDF this weekend.  Thanks for the suggestions I think they will turn the doubts away once incorporated. :coolsmiley:

I love symmetry; so I think a cartoon rendition of a GPSr in the center would be nice

If you're concerned about it adhering, I think Modge Podge brushed on top of your finished product will make a glossy, finished look.

Will we want more than one ?  I was thinking it would work pretty well on foam core board.

For application like that, I'm a fan of 3M's Super 77 spay adhesive.  Good stuff!

Great work for sure.

So, it is multipurpose with a veterinary application?   :stirpot:   (I couldn't resist.)

just make sure you have the paper exactly where you want it first if you use super 77.  one shot is all you get.

Really nice!

IMHO, as it stands now, all focus is drawn to center of board, if that is what you want then you're done as far as the radial burst background. However, I think your instincts about neutralizing the background are good. It should be a trivial thing to swap background to more neutral textured which brings much more emphasis to the game track itself.

One other thought, is that by removing the background entirely to transparent for a version, then the paper color/texture itself can be selected for the occasion when printed.

Just my .02

Oh, I wouldn't mind an ooch of drop shadow (couldn't resist - I'll shut up now)

Thanks for all the comments.  They help tremendously.  I may have misunderstood some, please forgive, but I think I incorporated almost all.  See two versions on this post.

I like the idea of making the track show out, so a black outline there.  Decentralized the middle area by filling in with plain white.  Part of the reason I like some type of background is that I use the background to cut the image to its extent by the color change on paper.  That being said, there is something to be said for using a white background to the track area, so I have shown that version.  I like the idea of adding a GPSr clip-art, but just have not figured how to utilize it - center, 4 corners, etc.

As you can see the suggestions paid off very well.  Thanks for that.

Foam core would be the way to go for extra copies, I like the idea of the folding travel board that the original game comes with, but not sure how the glue job will hold/wear at the folds.

I still like the 'hallucinogenic' silver one better!

Both options look really nice!   Although, I feel the plain background definitely offers more contrast - at least on screen.
