I saw this on facebook and wonder if anyone has tried it?

HOME MADE MOSQUITO REPELLENT (ALSO FOR ANTS & FLEAS)
(And free from chemicals that poison the body)

Ingredients:

1/2 litre of alcohol
100 gram of whole cloves
100 ml of baby oil or similar (almond, sesame, chamomile, lavender, fennel etc)

Preparation:
Leave cloves to marinate in alcohol four days
Stir every morning and evening
After 4 days add the oil
It's now ready to use.

How to use:

Gently rub a few drops into the skin of the arms and legs.
Observe the mosquitoes fleeing the room.
Repels fleas on pets too.

Someone told me they use flea collars on the tops of their boots to keep chiggers and ticks away.

Couple of questions:  1) how much is a litre?  gram?  ml?  and 2) what kid of alcohol?  I mean, if it's good alcohol and you're wearing it instead of drinking it, wouldn't it be better to consume the alcohol and simply put on DEET?

I don't know how to cut that recipe down as it's in that funky metric system stuff.  But that seems like a lot of cloves and liquid to "Gently rub a few drops into the skin of the arms and legs."

It is informative to consider how many people and countries in the world use the metric system, and how many don't. :stirpot:

Don't you just love a system that is based on things like 12 of these is equivalent to 1 of those; 3 of those is equivalent to 1 of that, and so on?  Or 8 of one thing is equivalent to one of another, but 2 of the others are equivalent to 1 of the next thing, and 2 of the next thing is equivalent to 1 of the bigger things, and 4 four the bigger things is equivalent to one of the biggest units.

I teach students to deal with conversions of one type of unit to another.  It would be a whole lot simpler if we used the metric system.

If we did convert to metric, would we have to hold a cigarette between our thumb and index finger too?

Drink enough of the good alcohol...like say Guiness and you wont care about the mossies:)

THAT is my point!  And we won't be wasting it by rubbing it on ourselves, either!  (actually, that sounds dirty but wasn't intended to be)
