Some Great Caches in Austin

Pat and I were in Austin yesterday watching our daughter play quidditch near Barton Springs, and I found myself off caching during the lunch break.

I went to the Texas State Cemetery, at 909 Navasota, and found some great history and some impressive virtual caches. The luminaries buried there are amazing, from Stephan Austin to Chris Kyle. Saw the monuments to Tom Landry, John Connolly, Ann Richards, General Sidney Albert Johnston, Barbara Jordan, the Texas Medal of Honor winners, and a memorial to the nine men from the small town of Praha that gave their lives in WWII. Did not find the monument to James Michener, one of my favorite authors. Was a little disappointed with the story of "Three Legged Willie" Williamson.

Well worth a visit, but I'd try during the week with one of their guides or docents, to get more of the many stories here. And Franklin's is way too busy for bbq, but La Barbecue at 1502 1st St was excellent, good sausage, brisket, and free beer and live music for the lunch crowd. I'm liking Austin, but the people may be a bit too hipster-ish for me.

Bob, this is an amazing coincidence.  I was thinking about visiting graveyards today (with caches) that had famous people buried in them.  thanks, my friend!

I was there about 5 years ago and got most of the virtuals in the cemetery.  There are a couple of cool virts on the UT campus too.

Yeah! I've been promising to take the kids for a few years now:). Bad mom hasn't done it yet.
