Night vision gear

Anyone have any experience with night vision goggles/goggle, binocular/monocular, etc? One can spend a ton of money on a setup (like $7,000) or something reasonably priced ($300) and everywhere in between. I'm trying to determine the pros/cons of the goggles/goggle setup vs binocular/monocular setup. I night-cache on my bike fairly often, so the goggle approach appeals more, but I could see some drawbacks to it as well. Thoughts? Experiences?

I want those x-ray glasses they used to sell in the back of comic books...uh, for, for, for geocaching.

Stepping up your FTF game, I see!

Truthfully, not for that reason. I'm doing okay on the FTF's. It just gets very distracting watching for cars, cops, muggles, etc. when I'm caching at night and having to snuff the flashlight to avoid detection. I've had so darn many police encounters, curious muggles, constant battery recharging for the flashlights, etc. that it seemed a worthy investment if I could find a good unit in an acceptable price range.

Yep, nothing defuses a night-time police encounter better than a prowler with night-vision goggles!  :2funny::police:

I found these on NewEgg.  Interesting

I knew someone would come back with a smarta$$ remark like that.  That requires Mr. Po-Po to actually see me, doesn't it, Larry? Lol

I saw those and a few others on Amazon (the one you listed was actually $100 cheaper on Amazon). I was just trying to find out if anyone had actually tried out any of the various types. I can see pros and cons of each type, but I'm sure there is plenty I'm not seeing as well....no pun intended....well, maybe a little intended.

I had looked into buying nightvision once before (I tend to have some intense day/night long paintball wars with my buddies) but then I got frugal with my money. In either case, this website seems to have good advice regarding the topic if you haven't scoped it out already: https://www.nightvision4less.com/education-center-night-vision-devices.aspx

Agree with HC, seems like a great way to ratchet up the tension of the late night encounters with the police.

If I got anything at all it wouldn't be for an urban setting so the input about police doesn't really apply. I was looking for input on experience anyone had with the various types of gear. Doesn't sound like anyone has any.

If you let me play with your xray goggles, I'll let you play with my Thermal Imaging Cam :D Great for micros in the bushes (uh, I suspect) :D

Guy in the woods at night with a flashlight or headlamp: Weird.

Guy in the woods at night with night vision goggles: Creepy weird.

The googles worked out pretty well for the goats,

much better than for Buffalo Bill:
