Necropolis of Britannia Manor III

If there's anyone left on HGCS who hasn't visited the Necropolis, here's a nice video to give you an idea of what the adventure is like. It's not a spoiler as far as the clues go but if you'd like to keep the final as a surprise, stop watching after the benchmark. If you've already visited, the video is a nice recap of the adventure.

Holy smokes! I've heard about this, but seeing the video really made it come alive.

Have not done this yet. Been saving this one, which can be a risky thing to do as we tend to assume the great caches will live on forever.

Thanks for posting!

It is still and most likely be my favorite cache due to all the fun that it involves. It helped to have my cousin with me who is from Austin, but by far the most fun and worth a trip to do again. I think a group convoy over to Austin would be a great idea.

I so want to do this. Anyone making a plan anytime soon, let me know.

Looks like we have a spammer in our midst. Seems to read "Cheap Coach" and "Coach Bag." That's according to Google Translate - I wasn't inclined to click on any such links. I had a hard enough time trying to learn to speak a bit of Japanese, never mind dealing with the assorted alphabets.

If you hover over his/her name you will see the web address has couch sales as part of the name.

The spammers have been really really bad lately. I'm getting upwards of 20+ registrations a day getting past the spam filter.

I've changed registration to admin approval and tweaked the registration page.

Thanks to those who used the reporting system. :)

Back on topic... This is must do cache.. even if you cheat :notme:

This has been on my to do list. How much time should be set aside to complete it?

I think I have seen 3-5 hours but it is possible to get stuck on one part of the quest which could extend your time. I have not done this cache but I have done massive preliminary research to the point that I am assured of completing it. I could use a fast forward and go directly to the end. I think a good compromise would be to do some research prior to attempting the cache to ensure that you at least know some of the major waypoints of the cache. It is a personal choice. If you plan to be in the Austin Area for more than a day then you could probably do nothing in advance. Internet access and a laptop or tablet or smartphone is definitely a great aid. Others who have actually done this cache can weigh in.

I got stuck on the second stop for the same reason many others have. You MUST print out the cache pages and take them with. Read EVERYTHING, especially the hints and tips at the end, and you won't have any problems. Given that, you could probably finish in 3 or 4 hours and I highly recommend visiting all the stops to get the full experience. Doesn't hurt to have a phone number or two of folks who have finished it, just in case.

We spent most of the day doing it. It helps to be familiar with the hot spots of Austin. We did stop and eat at the suggested restaurant to wait for dusk at the final. I think we spent close to an hour at the final, so I don't know how people are doing this in 3-4 hours.

I concur with HC. Print out the cache pages and keep meticulous notes and read carefully. There were a few things that were unclear at first. I was with my brother who had done it before and I don't think I would have gotten out of the cemetery with the right info if it wasn't for him. I do not recommend a fast forward. Do it all the way it was meant to be experienced. Hit the final at night.

I'm sure time has blurred how long this really took in my mind. I meant 3-4 hours to GET to the final, but it was probably took me more like 5 hours to get there. Yeah, and try to plan to do the last stage at twilight.

Good idea about doing the final at night. We were in San Marcos before Halloween and I was thinking about running up to do this before heading back home but it looks like we wouldn't have had enough time so I'm glad we didn't. I'll have to plan a day around this the next time we're out there.

Considering making a run for it on Monday or Tuesday 12/17 12/18. Anyone interested in going together?

I would be interested. Either day is fine with me. I have most of it solved but it would be nice to see it in person.

We'll be driving up to Fredericksburg on the 17th. Maybe we'll stop by and say Hi....

Looks like the 17th is the day, after checking with my wife she kindly reminded me that my son's Xmas Play is on the 18th O0.

Shoot me an e-mail at c1courtney at gmail dot com and we'll set up arrangements. I figure we can car pool to save on gas. Depending on were everyone lives we can figure where to meet up.

I've managed to figure out most everything as well, including the location of the final, but I plan on trying to do the whole thing the way it was meant to be done for the full experience. Looks like there's a number of good caches close by some of the stops as well.

Damn... looks like I missed out on a great adventure yesterday..... if only I'd paid more attention to the mysterious caption on the HGCS-forum....

Well there has always got to be a next time, anyone still interested?

Anywhere after the holidays would suit me, 1st or 2nd week of January would be an option (since I won't be back in town until January 6th)
