I went looking for good CLAPS / Gator photos and couldn't find 'em.

Kevin, can you suggest a particular cache that has the most?

I'd look at the event pages first.  I scanned and saw at least one in each, but they're not great ones.

Donna and I have better ones we can e-mail.  Some may be posted on the first of each old series, perhaps.  Some random throughout.

PM us if you want us to e-mail you some.

I went kayaking with two girls before I discovered geocaching & here's a big guy/gal we saw:

(bigger than our kayaks...I don't know if you can judge size by this picture...)

Most of the good gator pics I took are on my FaceBook page. Just look under the kayaking album. They were mostly taken when we were putting the new caches out - fewer people, more gator sightings.  :D

Thanks!  I'm sure all the parents of the scouts we're teaching to kayak will appreciate the pictures!   Mua-ha-ha-ha-ha!!

CO REQUEST:  Please do not replace caches on the CLAPS Series.

So many are in new places, new styles, new sizes, new types, etc.  Some are far more challenging than they used to be.

As such, it's not like it used to be.  And not all are as obvious as they used to be.  I'd far rather do paddle maintenance to find it there than to have finders finding the wrong cache.

So - to avoid issues we're asking that you please do not replace caches on the series going forward.

Thanks.

So you're saying to not replace the caches if we can't find them after 30 seconds.  :stirpot:

I found it all on my own....and took away the second throwdown.  Of course, my weak one arm couldn't open the slimey container very well, so I needed assistance on that part.

Slime is the latest (and not so great) in camo...but you wear it well!  :D

despite my shower with lots of loofah scrubbing, there was STILL some slime dirt left on my arm. it's some very stubborn bayou goo.

South Half of South CLAPS is in PERFECT order right now.  If you want to see what the paddle trail looks like, Go here and click "View Map Fullscreen" - which is below the thumbnails of the photos on the right side.

http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=2618199

This route encompassed Almost Kinda Sort a CLAPS Cache, S CLAPS 52 down to 42, across to 55, and 54, 53 and 52 as we returned to the Park.

Kirbydox and I went paddling in front of the storm this morning, only getting rained on as we crossed the lake to Clear Lake Park.  The caches on the WEST side of S CLAPS are good to go.  We replaced two missing caches, fixed a broken top or two, freshened everything up and and replaced nearly all the logs just so they were in better condition.

So the following fall into our run:

25 - 28

40 - 51

Known possible issues:  #55

We will paddle the east side soon and do some maintenance there and hit #55 at that time.

The north side, right now is hosed. See the hyacinth thread.  The little water in the photo Syd took earlier in the week is gone.  No water visible except directly below the bridge there are a few puddles of openness.

The S CLAPS areas between Bay Area Park and S CLAPS 27 had many patches of the stuff and seedlings covering the entire surface in areas.  It was easy to navigate today, though, and much of it I just paddled through.  None of the caches took much effort to get to -- far different than when the last cachers went through the area before they sprayed.

Once you got around the peninsula past #27 it really was not an issue at all.

Here is the area around #26.  You can see in the background that it's not like this all over (clear water in the main waterway), but in this 'cove area' all those little green seedlings covering the water are going to grow.  But, for now, far better than before they sprayed.

Kirbydox and I did a maintenance run on all of the East side of S CLAPS today.  We had to archive #55 in the middle of the lake as the entire manmade structure that was there has disappeared.  All the rest are ready to be found and in great shape now.

Paddled from Clear Lake Park to Bay Area Park.  Decided to check out the Wall of Denial on getting to N CLAPS.

Finally got EveryTrail to upload from the app.

http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=2989989

If you click View Map Fullscreen (lower right, below the map) it will go into slideshow mode (or should).   Will give you an idea of the conditions, hyacinth, and other debris from recent storms and heavy rains.

Horsepen Bayou has been refreshed by the CO  - TheBicycler.   As of now, all of S CLAPS is in perfect condition.

Meanwhile, N CLAPS is for all practical purposes unobtainable.

Was a great day for a paddle yesterday.  Took some scouts and their parents/siblings out from Bay Area Park to Horsepen Bayou.  Only Horspen #30 was a challenge.  It was blocked from the initial entry way but you could go around the island and come back to it.  The rest of the way was easy sailing on the south side.  North is still a no-go.
