GC31WM9  (Unpublished at this time)

One of numerous simultaneous events being held as part of the unveiling of the NEW TEXAS GEOCACHING ASSOCIATION.

September 10, 2011, 10am – 4pm

BRAZOS BEND STATE PARK, Park Entrance and HQ  (N 29°22.270, W095°37.915 )

The Texas Geocaching Association (TXGA) was formed in January 2003 by Sam Morrow (UsMorrows), Candy Lind (Moosiegirl), and Will Nienke (9Key).  Their vision and efforts have brought us here today; however, as with any organization, it is time that we revitalize TXGA.  From this point forward, September 10th will be TXGA DAY!

To commemorate this first TXGA DAY, we are wiping the slates clean and beginning anew.

Events like this one are being held across the state of Texas and the TXGA is encouraging EVERY TEXAS GEOCACHER to find an event near you and attend.  TXGA Reps are hosting and will provide everyone with all the information that you will need to renew or become a member of the Texas Geocaching Association.

Why become a TXGA Member?   What does TXGA do for Texas geocaching and me in particular?  Do I get anything by becoming a member?   These are just a few of the questions that will be answered at this event.

In addition, we will have a computer(s) hooked up to allow you to join before you leave the event.  Please note that Texas State Parks charge an entrance fee, $5 per person 13 years and older.

Friend TEXAS GEOCACHING ASSOCIATION on Facebook to stay up to date.

HOPE TO SEE ALL OF YOU THERE

Looking for any geocachers who want to lend a hand at this event.

We need:

• Cachers to "escort" newbies to a couple of caches

• Someone with a passenger van to perhaps provide some shuttling between the event site and nearby parking

• A cacher(s) willing to instruct on GSAK and or Geocaching 101

• TravelBug / Trackables Wrangler

Give me a shout via email or personal message.  Gary aka TDW

I am still working on the location for the Northside Spring/Woodlands/Kingwood area.  Should have it done soon.

I can't make it due to work.  If this link don't work, you can go the www.brazosbend.org / activities / geocaching at Brazos Bend to get a list of the caches that are in the park.  I am off next week and if I get a chance I may try and repair the ones that have issues.  Ya'll have fun.  Thanks, Steven

I would like to attend, but I'll have to discuss it with the husband and see what his schedule is like before I commit.  Just a couple of questions....is it a come and go type thing?  I've got a 3- and 5-year-old that LOVE Brazos Bend SP, and I know they're not going to be happy with me if I spend too much time keeping them from seeing alligators.  Also, is there a cost to becoming a TXGA member?

I was wondering if there are any scheduled activities, too, or is it just a 'sign the log' event.  Before we head out, any help verifying coords for HELP! would be appreciated.  I just looked again, and think I've got the right ones, but want to be sure.  My old ones took me to the wrong side of the river.

"Deputy Dogs" (the finest hotdogs in the world) will be handing out dogs starting around 11:30am.  Hopefully, we have a few experienced cachers around to take the newbies (alot have signed up) to some of the caches in the park.  If we get a big enough crowd, we will be parking in the 40 Acre Lake parking area and be shuttled back to the event location.

Starting around 1pm, we hope to have a raffle, etc.  The SKYPE hookup is scheduled for 3:30pm.  Be sure and bring chairs and water if you plan to stay a while.

Mrs. Geek and I will be out bright and early, unfortunately my recent hands-on GPSr experience is only with my DeLorme PN-60. Now, if anyone shows up with a Geko201, I'm all over that O0. Otherwise, happy to help anyway we can to support the event. Pretty sure our newly indoctrinated neighbor will be coming out with her daughter and riding with us, hopefully an opportunity to get them off a phone app and into a real GPSr.

On another note, I know that TPWD has a printed list of caches in the park but is there a bookmark or PQ file specific to BBSP? We've actually never cached there, wouldn't mind knocking out a few while we're there without having to enter all those waypoints  ;D.

That sounds fun!  I've already found a lot of the caches in the park (the endurance series being the exception), but I would love to come out and meet everyone.  I'm really pushing for the husband to hurry up and finish his homework so we can attend.  :D

This was a really fun event.  Great meeting a lot cachers I hadn't met before and quite a few really new cachers as well.  BBSP is always a fun place... and the day couldn't have been much better, really.

Sorry the Skype thing didn't work out - but think it was a huge success otherwise.  O0

I am not elieving that I missed this event just a few miles down the road from my house. Dang. Real life is severely messing up my geocaching quality time. :'(

Mrs. Geek and I had a good time, as did our neighbors who were recently introduced to geocaching. We got to meet a few more folks that we hadn't met yet, always good to put faces with names. Hit seven nearby caches, including the TxGCC11, and more on the way back home. Also became $100 poorer, thanks to TXGA and TDPW  O0. Thanks to TDW, gsguru, and everyone else that contributed to making the event a success. Looking forward to TXGA doing good things for geocaching here in Texas
