  1. New arrivals and air pigs

I'm truly sorry for your loss. When I first heard about the details, I wondered if you knew him. Cindy and I will keep his family and YOU in our prayers.
  2. New arrivals and air pigs

Thanks for all these cool links! They've been most enlightening....
  3. New arrivals and air pigs

Thanks for not only the link, but your comments, OSC! It's always interesting hearing an insider's view of stuff like this. Not sure if you've seen these photos I uploaded on FB (in the Athens Scuba Park album), but in case you haven't, and for those that don't do FB, here are a few that are appropriate for this thread. They are from a Hawker-Beech BH-125 (N600MK).
  4. For nonfiction, I'm currently reading Neptune's Inferno by James Hornfischer. It's the story of the US Navy's surface actions during the battle for Guadalcanal. I'm also reading The Magician King by Lev Grossman. This fictional tale has been described as an "adult version" of Harry Potter. It's the second book of a planned trilogy. The first of the series was The Magicians.
  5. New arrivals and air pigs

It'll be cool seeing a 787 in "company" colors, even with the U-word instead of Continental on the side. I assume there's no interest in acquiring more pigs, even if Boeing re-engines them?
  6. PADI Open Water Diver Course

There's a scuba cache in Clute at Mammoth Lake Scuba, http://coord.info/GC2YF9V, that Cindy and I want to do next time we go diving there.
  7. PADI Open Water Diver Course

What is an appropriate Tip? From the research I've done, I understand the average to be ~ $5 per tank per person. That's what we are planning on for our dives in Cozumel and Grand Cayman this December.
  8. PADI Open Water Diver Course

Cindy and I just got our PADI open water certification in May with Bill Jones http://home.comcast.net/~bill.jones.scubaguy/. He's a PADI Master Instructor, and his rates are very reasonable. He usually teaches one class a month, over two weekends. You probably won't find anyone who's tuition is cheaper in this area, as he does this as a hobby and not for a living. Check out PADI's site for the requirements for a Master Instructor. There aren't too many Master Instructors in the Houston area. The first weekend will be class on Friday night and Saturday morning, pool, or "confined water" training Saturday afternoon and more class/exams on Sunday. The second weekend will be the open water dives on Saturday and Sunday. Bill likes doing his open water dives at The Blue Lagoon in Huntsville. http://www.bluelagoonscuba.net/ Generally, there are three main certifying agencies: PADI www.padi.com NAUI www.naui.org SSI www.divessi.com All of these are accepted worldwide, but you'll likely find more recognition with PADI. All will teach essentially the same material, but with their own slight differences. Choosing a certification agency is somewhat like buying a car. Ask 10 people and you'll likely get replies like "I wouldn't drive anything but a Chevy!" while another will say "Chevys suck! I'm a Ford man!" The point here is that both a Chevy and a Ford will get you where you need to go. I can't speak for how NAUI or SSI teaches, but I know that any PADI instructor will want you to have at least the following for class: mask, snorkel, fins, weights and weight belt (in addition to your text book and maybe the dive tables). Your instructor will usually help you pick out these items. There's a ton of info on a scuba board that I spend time on: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/forum.php And yes, I'm registered as Lefty Writer there, too. Let me know if you have specific questions and I'll be happy to answer them as best I can. Good luck!
  9. New arrivals and air pigs

Now *those* are awesome! I wonder if they play the sound effects on takeoff....
  10. New arrivals and air pigs

Another airline buys the A-380. I've heard thier landings are generally pretty rough...
  11. New arrivals and air pigs

    Most cool!
  12. Dual Monitors

Four monitors?? That would work for me. Monitor 1: HGCS Monitor 2: Facebook Monitor 3: A.net Monitor 4: YouTube, I mean, ummm, "work stuff."
  13. Dual Monitors

I use dual monitors at home, and feel really limited when I have to get by using just a single monitor at work. It's soooo much more convenient to have two monitors!
  14. Geico Trackable TB announced

Still waiting for my Geico TB. I never to the "sorry, you're too late" message when I requested one, so hopefully it will arrive soon. About the time this promotion started, I requested another TB from www.beadiver.com. I got that in the mail yesterday. Here is my log grabbing this TB: http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?guid=3f56bf03-a6af-4511-ad5f-52a3659ffbcb
  15. Dive Caching

That's what I was trying to say, but you said it so much better.
