  1. Demise of Opencaching.com

Might as well take down the link too. Opencaching.com "is no longer available". Not that anyone has noticed...
  2. ET Highway Question

Rick & Lola bought a bunch of the 13 dram, squeeze-pop-top bottles a couple of years ago. You can get them for about 10 cents each, if you buy in bulk. https://www.amazon.com/Case-315-Bottles-Black-Obsidian/dp/B013FJFML4/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1510152954&sr=8-7&keywords=pop+top+bottles
  3. ET Highway Question

We took pill bottles and the like. You used to be able to get 35 mm film canisters for free at Walgreens or other photo developing places, but I don't think they get much "old school" film in anymore.
  4. I Just Made a Wherigo Cartridge

Sorry I was MIA for most of this thread. The posted coordinates for most of my Wherigo caches are near the first zone or the starting point for the cartridge -- close enough that if you start playing the cartridge at the posted coordinates, the first zone appears on the player. Since the posted coordinates are almost always "bogus" (I placed nothing there) they can be within 528 feet of another cache or waypoint of a multi. I'd avoid putting it at the exact coordinates of another cache because then the icons overlap on the map and one of the caches won't be visible.
  5. Evince (coordinate checker) Now Spam

While you're at it, if you have a Certitude checker on any of your cache pages from several years ago and haven't checked it lately, make sure that link works too. The correct site begins www.certitudes.org (note the "S" at the end of Certitude). The old site (without the S) has been flagged by MalwareBytes as untrustworthy.
  6. Does GC no longer provide for Needs Maintenance logs?

If you're logging from the new form, you either need to click on "Report a Problem" (which will add a Needs Maintenance log along with your regular log), or choose "Opt Out" to go to the old form. The NM choice is still there in the drop down box on the old form.
  7. 2018 Texas Challenge Meeting

    Thanks, Josh!
  8. Has GC stopped sending notices of Pocket Queries?

I'm still getting mine. They go straight to my deleted mail folder. I wish GC would let you decide which emails you want to get. I look at PQ's in GSAK and get absolutely no added value from them sending me an email to tell me a pocket query ran. I also don't really care to get an email every time someone discovers any of my trackables. But that's just me...
  9. The Texas State Parks Challenge is being retired.

I found quite a few of the 2013 TX Parks caches, but never did really worry about driving all over the state filling in a passport to collect a pathtag. I'm pretty sure a lot of the interest in the series dropped because most of the hardcore geocachers had already found them.
  10. It's a sad day...

On a side note, anyone want to buy a toilet seat museum? http://foxsanantonio.com/news/local/toilet-seat-art-museum-up-for-sale
  11. Best TB resurrection story

https://coord.info/TB3Z7N1 This one just reared it's head after a 6-year hibernation!
  12. Google Earth Pro?

There is a cool macro in GSAK called GoogleEarthCircles that will draw 528' circles around all the cache locations in a database or filtered database. http://gsak.net/board/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=216660
  13. Cachly?

Cachly keeps adding cool features. I recently noticed that new unfound caches have an "FTF" mark beside them on the map. You can tell at a glance any FTF opportunities that exist on the map... if you're into that sort of thing.
  14. What's With Haunted Hides?

My souvenir says: You earned this souvenir by finding a geocache or attending an event from October 29–31, 2016. The Ghost of Unfound Caches thanks you for freeing her. The ammo can on the souvenir art has some message written in runes on it. After getting the souvenir, I got an email from Groundspeak that said: You freed the Ghost of Unfound Caches! To thank you, the Ghost concealed a secret password within the Haunted Hides souvenir. When entered here, this password unlocks a ghostly gift for your geocaching profile. (View hints.) The Ghost would also like to thank you for its release with a FREE spooky trackable tag on your next purchase from Shop Geocaching. Enter the code SPOOKY at checkout to claim your reward. Happy geocaching! Not sure if I ever ordered anything to get the free tag or not.
  15. Virtual Reward :)

Well deserved, TB! Still waiting for my email...
  16. Google Earth Pro?

Google Earth Pro used to be a paid app, but they made it free a couple of years ago. Under Tools/Ruler, there are more options for measuring, such as drawing circles and polygons. Enclose an area in a polygon and it will show you how much area (acreage) is inside of it. I used that to verify the acreage on our place outside of Fredericksburg. I believe the ruler function on regular GE just had line and path measure.
  17. fainter & fainter

There's another great FB group on How to Use GSAK -- https://www.facebook.com/groups/407287435986118/
  18. Caching with Smartphone / Apps mind your compass!

I guess the same could be true for a "regular" GPSr, since some have similar internal compasses.
  19. Has GC stopped supporting encryption of logs?

There's a lot about the "new" version of pages I don't like. If they ever do away with the old home page (dashboard?) and make me use the new one, I think I'll quit caching.
  20. fainter & fainter

I think I mentioned in another thread that I USED to be on the Houston Geocachers Facebook group, but suddenly got kicked off for (I guess) possibly being friends with someone who may or may not have ratted out the admin of that group to Groundspeak for being a terrible reviewer... or something to that effect. Kirbydox and BB got banned too for similar fuzzy reasons. cachestacker isn't on facebook at all (look him up on Instagram!) ;-) I post occasionally on the SETX Gang and the Centex Geocachers groups on Facebook. I still check in here frequently and will be disappointed if this forum ever goes away.
  21. It's a sad day...

Crap. I never got that one either!
  22. GC.com's name search

They divorced about, oh, 8 years ago. She changed her name then.
  23. How much climbing

Newbies who hid a cache and never changed the default rating of 1.5 / 1.5. I'm sure reaching out to them through a log to the cache or through the messaging system will result in no change to the rating.
  24. Houston GeoCaching Society Geocoins

As some may know, during a psychotic episode a few years back I decided to have some Houston Geocaching Society geocoins minted. They are nice 1.75" diameter coins that are trackable on geocaching.com with a custom icon. I released some into the wild (a few are still traveling), sold some, traded some, and gave some away. Still, I have a couple of boxes of them left. If anyone is interested in one (or 50) I'll let them go for $8 each. For $10 each, I'll include shipping them to you. PM me if you're interested. I might consider a bulk discount if you want several, so make me an offer.
  25. Best TB resurrection story

    That's quite a resurrection!
