7 cache types in 1 day
« on: March 09, 2010, 06:07:55 PM »
Hey everyone.  I'd like to plan an event next month in Baytown (Crystal Bay) where we can meet up and do all of HoustonControl's different cache types for the Pick6 challenge.  Within a few miles of each other, we can do the following cache types:

Traditional
Unknown
Multi-cache
Virtual Cache
Earthcache
Wherigo
Event

That will give us all 7 cache types, and when we are done, we can all go grab a bite to eat somewhere and share stories.  Is anyone interested in doing this?  I can do the Pick6 challenge without doing the event, but I figured it would be more fun to have a group do it, and have the event cache to add one more cache type for the day.  My next question is does anyone know if I post an event cache, can I log it as attended and get credit for the event cache even though I am the host?  If I don't get credit for it, I will find someone else who's already done the challenge, or I will just create another username to host it.  Thanks.

I "attended" all my events. This sounds like a great way to get a challenge cache as well as a group together to socialize. I'm in if it fits in my schedule. My son comes home on leave from Iraq next month so I am leaving my options open.

There's a Letterbox Hybrid in BNC, for those that haven't gotten it, that could bring some cachers up to 8.   O0

Sounds like a great idea!  Throw in I CITO at the end and make it 9!

Oh ya, I forgot about that one.  Does anyone who would want to go have a wherigo reader?  I installed a program on my BlackBerry, but I don't know how well it will work, if at all.

When wording your cache page, do not mention the event is for "finding caches".  That is expressly forbidden.
A "meet and greet" at a nearby park would work fine.

Thanks for the heads up.  I'll keep that in mind when I set up the event.  It would be nice if someone sets up a CITO event (like HoustonControl mentioned) the same day in the area, so we can hit that up too.  Would be cool to get 9 cache types in 1 day!

I'd love to do this!
9 types in one day is just awesome.
I've done 7 in Alabama.

Would have to be after the TX challenge

...I wonder if when I go GeoWoodstock I can add the APE cache and do 10 :-)

For those of us that have already done all of the virtuals and have done the wherigo, it would be great if a CITO could be set up for the same day as the event and also if someone could place another letterbox hybrid.  Perhaps set up the CITO in the park and then the event at the restaurant for dinner.  We could probably figure out some other caches in the area to go after to fill the other ones.  I'd like to be able to do this one, but everything would have to fall just right for that to ever happen since new virtuals can't be created and we don't have the equipment for a wherigo unless we borrow (which we probably could do if there was new one).

This sound like a great time.  I'll be there if my schedule allows.
There are only two things necessary in life - WD-40 and duct tape…. WD-40 for things that don't move that should, and duct tape for things that do move but shouldn't.

another one we can do is a benchmark..that counts towards cache type in 1 day.  surely we can find one around there...that could potentially get us to 10 cache types in 1 day.

Benchmarks don't count for cache counts, so it wouldn't help for the Pick 6 Challenge.

Oh, it shows up in my profile now for the one I found today, so I assumed it helped the count also.  Oh well.

Yeah, benchmarks show on your cache page, but don't add to your find count.  Besides, I specifically exclude benchmarks on the cache page.

"Sorry, but only loggable geocaches and/or events count. No benchmarks, waymarks, or (for those using past finds) locationless caches."
