I'm doing a BCO kayaking event in the morning launching from Seawolf Park. I was very surprised there were no caches in or around the park.  I was equally surprised there wasn't a cache on the concrete wreck just north of the park. Is there some prohibition on caches in these areas?

BTW, if anyone would like to join us we're meeting in the park at 9:45.

I've often wondered about putting one on the concrete ship but never investigated after considering the maintenance factor.

I wonder if there would be a security issue given the commercial shipping traffic in the area.

I'll explore tomorrow, but it's such a short paddle from SWP the maintenance factor is surely less than some of the caches in CLAPS & GBP. I'm taking supplies, just in case!  B)

It's a shorter paddle, but a longer drive and overall time commitment per maintenance.  At least when I have to do one on CLAPS I get to check all along the way and get my solo time / nature hit.  If I lived closer....

If I remember right, years ago, there was a cache at the concrete ship.

There used to be one on the island nearest the ship, but it kept disappearing.

The ship itself is private property owned by the former Houston Chronicle editor who died in 2011.

CONCRETE SHIPWRECK -  GC23C4  -  Hidden Apr 4 2001, Archived Sept 3, 2008.  Placed by TOM,  adopted by  THUMPMASTER.   FTF was DOG BISCUIT.   I found the cache on Nov 6, 2003.  Had a short hike to the cache.

Reading the logs -  a lot of the old timers

Thanks PP as I was trying to find the archived cache. Yes it is fun to read the logs.

The logs indicate there is now a do not trespass sign at the road.

I think putting one in an area that homeland security patrols is asking for trouble.
