This place seemed to need more trail clearing than trash cleanup. However, I did notice that just off to the right side of the road that used to be open to drive on back to the bigger parking area there had been a lot of dumping of trash going on which could really use some cleanup. We were just out to the Jones State Forest area yesterday and loved our caching afternoon. I was really tired when I got home though.

There are a few key areas that need help and two are by the parking areas.

Does someone have a logical route for getting all these caches?

Most of the caches are just off the trails in the forest. The trails, in general, form a grid pattern with trails running north/south and east west. This is not absolutely correct, but it should give you an idea of what it looks like.

By bicycle, and caching alone, I was able to do the Presidential series in about 4 1/2 hours (as I recall) and around 10.5 miles. The new caches would add to that time/distance, of course. The only suggestion I can think of that may help is start at the south end and work north. The park more or less runs up hill from south to north, and if you do as I did, you'll have a long and often sandy uphill ride back to parking at the end of your hunt. You could either park at the south end, work your way north and then return south or park north, go more or less directly to the south end and then work your way back. It's a nice series, actually two series now, but it probably won't work well with the CITO Event. Here's a link to the trail system:

http://texasforestse...jsf/MapJsf3.pdf

BTW, all caches in both series are south of FM 1488.

Well, is there a parking lot on the south end then?

Not really a lot, but there is room to pull over and park along the dead end road that goes to the south end.

Do not park there! I was recently pulled over by the State Forest Ranger and they are checking the area well. Email me and I can tell you a better place to park. Only park at the assigned parking lot or where I tell you.

We are a pretty hardy bunch. I think Monday, my Bride and son-in-law are going to go do the forest on bikes and park at your coords - weather permitting.

Be prepared for loose, sandy trails in some parts. Other areas are hard packed.
It's about 11 miles of biking plus a few side trails, and bushwacks.
Have fun out there.

11 Miles of biking is the Presidential series alone. I think its about 15 miles total now.

Will deer hunters be a concern in this group of woods? I have trouble on large series trying to rember which way is which, so I made this downloadeable cheat sheet.
