I generally dislike web sites that start playing a video when you land on the page. Cacheface started two at the same time. So I doubly disliked my initial experience.

I've tried almost everything over the last 20 years from the pre-Internet Bulletin Boards, web rings (I ran 14 at one time), PHP BB's to Facebook with the intention of staying current. By far, the biggest waste of time (IMO) of all of them has been Twitter. I might sign up on this new one to see if it is worthy of my time.

It seems to me that hgcs fulfills me within the local area very nicely.
I think there is a market for a National or global version of hgcs, however. Obviously, GC.com forums are the closest thing to that we have - that I'm aware of anyway. Problem is that is not a very welcoming and inviting place for newcomers IMO. Perhaps it's naive of me to think we could have a super-sized hgcs. I suppose there are cyber blowhards, flame throwers, and bullies everywhere online these days. You just don't want them to be in charge.

I've had this very same thought for a long time now. Been looking at cachetalk.com for years... someone finally cyber-squatted it for $2500. Bastages...

Maybe something like http://cachetalk.net ?

I think this forum works just fine for me as I know half the people on here. I have no interest in a "national" forum of a bunch of strangers talking about caches I will never go get. But that's just me. The podcasts I listen too I guess fill that "national" void for me.

Oh, I liken a national or international community platform as very useful for completely different reasons. I'm thinking of Scouting as my example where our Pack/Troop/District/Council scratched largely local itch, but there remained a benefit to scouting.org, BSA.org and several others when discussing global or national policy. Or coordinating with neighboring states for events, or broader policy input, or just more friendly eyes weighing in on topics across Geographical boundaries. It could be quite useful especially with financial or other independence from others in the game "for a living"
