CLAPS: Paddling Downstream for Once

Saturday, October 13, 2012
Boat launching promptly at 9:15 a.m. from Spring Gulley

See cache page for full details.

Get your yaks and canoes out! It's paddle time.

We will cover all of CLAPS III (backwards) and the first two of the original series. Paddlers can continue on if they desire once we end at Bay Area Park.

Following the paddle event, there is a picnic event at Bay Area Park. Two-fer events. Please log a will-attend at EACH event you plan to attend.

As I am trying something new, if you want to attend the event(s) but not go on the water, we could really use your help shuttling CLEAN cachers from Bay Area Park to the launch point on Red Bluff. That way the paddlers' vehicles will be waiting on them when their journey is done.

Events submitted, but not published at the time of this post. Links will work once published:

Paddle Event: http://coord.info/GC3460F

Picnic After-Event: http://coord.info/GC3HCQT

Any questions? Check out http://hgcs.org/inde...aqs-and-status/ and/or post 'em in this thread.

Working with PR now. PR isn't liking 2 events. Or maybe he isn't liking 2 events hosted by the same person with the timing of the 2nd kinda-sorta contingent upon when the host and most attendees arrive. So. We'll see what develops. But if we have a non-paddling person who wants to host a picnic in the park..... and get the grill fired up for us in advance..... PM me.

No worries on the paddle event, though. It's just being held up at the moment due to the other.

If we want to attend, but don't own a kayak or canoe is there a place to rent them?

Hum... well I hope I'll be able to make it. For the past 3yrs that's been the weekend for my son's Cubscout Pack's fall campout. We'll see if the Moon and Planets align.

I'd love to get out on water, but will prob not be able to due to being a broke college kid :( Will have to see if I get a part-time job and how club fundraisers go. Can prob do the picnic after.

Dawn,
You really should look at coming to the TXGA unnamed event on Sept 15th. It is close to Brenham, TX so it is no an impossible drive from Galveston.

The event involving the moon is a separate paddle event, lol. ;) (The Night Paddle Event -- which is looking like it will be 12/1 since the moon is full 11/28.)

I hear you. With all our scout stuff it's difficult to find a day to do the daytime paddle event!

Post a note that you'd love to share a seat or borrow a yak if someone has one available when the event publishes. You never know!

It may be cheaper to rent a yak here than the gas to drive to the unnamed event.... Plus more time to beg for a free ride. ;)

That is college family weekend for us, so it's unlikely I'll be able to join in.

Eagle,

Thanks, but I got officer training for the club that day.

Change a name, delete a link to the post-paddle event -- and events go live.

Still seeking a non-paddling grillmaster and shuttlers.

I was on Armand Bayou this past weekend and it could use some clean up. It was for a group paddle so I mostly collected plastic bottles because they were easy to reach, but there are some spots where the stuff really collects in the far upstream area of the bayou. Someone with a fishing net could fill a bag is short order. I'll make the event if I can.

Wow. Someone should host a CITO on the Bayou. And post it at Spring Gulley and Armand Bayou (around CLAPS III #9). Just sayin'. :notme:

That would make 7 types in a day, just on the water, for those who have not done the series. O0

If someone does it, call CLAPS: ___ whatever and I'll bookmark it so it counds towards the Challenge.

Maybe someone should claim it if they're doing it so PR doesn't get 5 submissions...
