Another one off the list, thank goodness...
Our cache, http://coord.info/GCV04Z was finally found yesterday by edhag. Last find on it was back on 16 April 2011.

Finder said the coords were good but we will check them out just to be sure. Yes, it is a nano!

I am not sure why this one

FTFC #113 - Random Patterns

http://www.geocachin...1b-c43dd7cb32e1 was not on the list since it is over 1.5 years since found. I found it today.

They hit the list when it's been two years since the last find. Congrats on your find, though.

OK. I guess I should have waited for 6 months before finding it. Amazingly only the FTFer log dawgs found it.

Yep I remember that day.  Hopping two fences and trespassing on property for the FTF trophy and I was only late by 20 mins to work.

These three are now off the list:

  • GC1Y5AF Pondering? (found it today)
  • GC2MC3W Amatuber1K - Help, I lost my tube! (found it today)
  • GCRRZ4 the Columbiad (found it today)

I also hunted this one (GC2P4R0 What's with all the balls?), and as previous logs indicate, it seems pretty clear this one is missing, so I tagged it as Needs Archived since the CO hasn't done anything with it in a long time.

I've been active writing the CO on some local caches and a few have archived them. The saddest note though came from Geowoof. Since his doggie died, geocaching hasn't been much fun. Does anyone know this fellow?

We know of him and have met him on a number of occasions. Really nice guy. His dog had super long fur and even when they were bushwhacking, the dog looked like he had just come from the groomer. We never figured out how he kept the pup looking so good.
Sad news to hear of his loss.

Perhaps after awhile he can get another dog as there are so many that need homes these days.

I don't know him, but a while back I wrote to him through GC.com and asked if I could adopt his cache in Bay Area Park (http://coord.info/GCW9EY) since it had been out there since 2006 but apparently was missing. He answered me, told me the story about his dog, and asked me what he needed to do so I sent him the link to adopt it.

I never heard anything back from him and then a couple of months later he archived the cache. Que sera sera.....

I don't weed through this list, (because I really don't know how to figure out which would be near me unless I laboriously click through each one?), but today I accidently ran across one that would have made 2 years if there would be no finds in December.

The log isn't..touchable. But considering when I looked at the logs online I saw a few familiar faces, I thought y'all might find it amusing to see how the area has changed in, years.

Terra Firma?

1. Turn the list into a GPX file.
(Or obtain it ;) )
2. Load into its own Database in GSAK
3. Use one of several google map or Earth macros to display them all at once to show u where they all are. Zoom in to un cluster. Highlight for summary or click to open full cache detail.
*Must have premium membership.

This is exactly the process that I use (dedicated GSAK database) for the caches on the list. Larry provides a link at the end of his monthly report to a public bookmark for the list. You can click that link, go to the public bookmark, download it as a .gpx file, pull the .gpx file into a dedicated database in GSAK, and use the GoogleMap macro to display all the caches geographically (just as Kenny described). It's easy to see which ones are in your area that way....and there are a bunch down south. :>)

On balance I should mention that you don't have to have gsak to look at a set of caches such as a list, yours or someone else's.

Technically u just need premium membership. This gives u the ability to turn any list of caches into a pocket query, which then allows you to display that lists contents in a browser, or download for use with any number of devices, programs, or utilities that accept gpx files.

I just happen to use gsak most of the time for this sort of analysis. Basecamp also is becoming quite useful for this sort of thing too for different reasons.

I like to keep certain groups on my phone (geosphere app} in an isolated manner for those spontaneous needs in the field too. In this case it would be TLSF list. When I isolate that group on the phone browser I can see em all in proximity to my current location. I seem to recall that even the GS app allowed offline caches, so maybe that would do it too.

HTH,

K

I went out and found these two today. Both had become untethered and had wandered and/or become covered with natural debris. While I was in that general area, I grabbed an FTF on one from a week ago that was off by 80 feet. One of those days where things were just going my way. I love those kinds of days...

I went out and found these two today. Both had become untethered and had wandered and/or become covered with natural debris.
